To anyone out there who like me, tried to do the right thing and pay off our student loans by taking advantage of the interest moratorium and thought you were just screwed by this latest fiasco and outright illegal 'forgiveness' thing. I offer a bit of hope. I just found out that any payments made after March 2020 are eligible for a refund up to the $10,000 or $20,000. Just thought I'd share this in case there is anyone out there in the same situation as I am. Thanks

There are people out there, who, due to extenuating circumstances such as unexpected illness, homelessness, poverty, and other life events can't make payments on a student loan. A forgiveness of the loan would be a godsend for people in that position.

You're very fortunate that you were able to pay yours off, because there's plenty of people out there who can't, due to circumstances beyond their control. Count your lucky stars.

I'm sorry, but I have just lived through 5 years of hell financially after losing my job a few years back in 2017. Eviction notice on the door when came home from lack of rent payments, having my electricity shut off for the first time ever in my life, eating hot dogs for weeks because I could get them for free at my now job, and that was my only meal for the day. Walking to work because my car died and of course I couldn't get it repaired, so don't lecture me on extenuating circumstances. I did See more

Again, you're very fortunate. Because there's some who likely won't be able to make a recovery and rebound. This includes ever working again. Those are people who could definitely benefit from a forgiveness.

Furthermore, don't think I can't empathize with you. You have no idea what I've been through in my life either.

Where this problem starts is in giving this type of predatory loan to 18 year olds in the first place. The loan forgiveness is kind of a clumsy bandaid that barely starts to address the bigger problem.

But once the loan has been taken out, the adult, responsible thing to do is do what it takes to pay it off, and I applaud everyone who does it. Thank you for the like man! :) but i have to disagree, I paid mine and so can they, we were all adults when we signed the papers.

For some people, there are extenuating circumstances that have happened (illness, poverty, etc.) where they can't pay it back, or they're paying on it literally for the rest of their lives.
